AAT level 2 bookkeeping, also known as foundation certificate in bookkeeping, is for those who want to start a career in bookkeeping, accountancy or finance. You will learn manual double entry bookkeeping, relevant documents, various books, ledgers and trial balance. Most learners start at this level. This qualification can be used as a fast track to the Advanced Diploma in Accounting.

- Process customer and supplier transactions
- Process receipts and payments
- Process transactions through ledgers to trial balance
- Understand payment methods
- Understand controls in a bookkeeping system
- Use control accounts
- Use the journal

Assessment: there is a 90 minutes computer-based assessment for each unit
No previous knowledge or skill required. AAT SkillCheck is required. For the best chance to succeed we recommend a standard and good level of Maths and English.

After this qualification you can further progress to level 3 bookkeeping/accounting and level 4 accounting qualifications.
